Chapter 09 · Coins with rules
A coin can carry
its own rules.
On June 30, 2026 the upgrade let a coin carry rules for how it may be spent. Every miner checks them like a signature.
Rob the vault. You have the owner’s key.
Drag the coin onto a move, or tap one. Its rules:
- Before the lock date, all of it goes to the owner’s cold wallet.
- After the lock date, the key can send it anywhere.
Pick a move. Each try resets the coin.
How covenants work
Toccata turned on four proposals. KIP-17 lets a script check the transaction spending it, so a coin can demand a matching next output. KIP-20 gives covenants an ID that consensus tracks, so lookalikes can’t be forged. KIP-16 lets a script check a zero-knowledge proof instead of re-running the work. KIP-21 adds sequencing commitments so an app can prove its own lane. Activation was at DAA score 474,165,565.
SilverScript, released as v1 in September, lets developers write these rules in readable code. What covenants can’t do yet: many users changing one shared app state at once. That’s the goal of vProgs, still a prototype.
Status checked Nov 4, 2026 on GitHub: rusty-kaspa, SilverScript, the KCC and KIP repositories, vProgs.
The one sentenceCoins can carry their own spending rules, and the rules run the same for everyone.
